Alhamdulillah..It's been 1 year and 2 months after did my LASEK surgery so here i want to share the experience..
There are 2 types of Laser surgery - LASEK and LASIK. LASEK - the surgeon will keep the outer layers of the cornea off the eye while he reshapes the mid-layer underneath. A LASEK patient will also use a special contact lens for three to four days to further protect the eye while it heals. LASIK - the surgeon reaches the mid-layer of the cornea in a different way by create a corneal flap. LASIK patient usually recovers slightly faster.
The type of surgery decided by the Doctor and based on our eyes condition. Usually for someone with "sepet" eyes like me need to undergo the LASEK surgery.
Let's proceed with the procedure that I took before I undergone the surgery. I did my LASEK surgery at Advance Vision, Uptown Damansara. Cost for the surgery is just RM 2,888 (both LASEK & LASIK same) + RM80 (for 1st checkup) + RM30 (additional medicine - based on individual eyes' condition) and in TOTAL the surgery just take you RM 2,998 for both eyes and it cover 6 times follow-up checkup for a year and lifetime coverage for the eyes.
Before you go to the 1st checkup, it is advisable to call the clinic and set up the appointment. It should be better if you could make an appointment during working days due to you need to wait for quite long during weekend. They open at 9.00 am but as early as 8.30 am there are lots of people already queuing.
1st appointment, the optometrist will advise you on the procedure and it is free of charge. The process involve:
1)Check the power of your glasses and degree of vision you possess.
2)Corneal topography – a three dimensional view of the surface of your eye ball. It will provide information on your corneal thickness, curvature, diameter and so on. It gives the parameter of your corneal structure.
3)Pupil size
4)Tear flow
5)Full examination of your eyes both at the front and back.
6)Underlying medical history such as rheumatoid arthritis, autoimmune diseases, severe dry eyes or any other contraindications.
My glasses power previously was 700+ for right eye and 650 for my left eye. At first they advise me to do the Custom LASEK that cost RM5K+ due to my power is quite high but don't worry you can Dr. Yeoh whether your eyes is suitable for the normal surgery due to your budget constraint. Below are the photo from my previous checkup:
After you agreed with the procedure, you can proceed with 2nd step. If not so much people waiting, you can proceed with the 2nd step immediately and you need to pay RM80 (cash). You will meet the doctor for the eyes checkup. But before that, the optometrist will put something like eye-drop to your eyes. The eye-drop will make your sight a bit blur for 4-5 hours so it's advisable for you to bring your friend together on that day.
After that check-up, you need to pay RM300 deposit by cash or pay the full amount by credit card to proceed with the surgery. The optometrist will check on the availability slot for you and they will give you the next appointment date for the last check-up before the surgery.
I will share on the next procedure in my next update...Cheersss!!
